Constant tension reps are designed to manipulate the hemodynamics of the muscle by creating occlusion through muscular contraction, with constant tension, not letting the muscle relax and blood to flow out. By doing this, metabolites accumulate in the muscle during the set until relaxation occurs. During these constant tension reps, you never really go to lock out or the bottom position, so just the mid-range of motion. The tempo set up might look something like this:
Eccentric portion (3-5 second lowering)
Concentric portion (3-5 second lowering)
Do not count reps, instead count time. One set can last about 45 seconds to one minute.
